STA To Launch NEW Swimming Pool & Spa Water Treatment Qualifications

The STA and ISPAL have been working in "Partnership" for many years in order to raise standards and ensure good practice is sustained across all areas of Sport, Leisure and Recreation. Therefore in line with the latest recommendations from the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG), the STA has updated both its Foundation and Certificate Level Swimming Pool and Spa Water Treatment qualifications. The Foundation course has also been redesigned to suit the practical training requirements of the leisure industry.

The STA's new qualifications were revised in February 2010 and both Foundation and Certificate Level qualifications have been updated to ensure new and current candidates are informed about the very latest recommendations from PWTAG and the Carbon Trust.

STA's NEW Swimming Pool & Spa Water Treatment Qualifications

In line with the latest recommendations from The Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG) the STA has updated both its Foundation and Certificate Level Swimming Pool and Spa Water Treatment qualifications. The Foundation course has also been redesigned to suit the practical training requirements of the leisure industry.

Both qualifications have been updated to ensure new and current candidates are informaed about the very latest recommendations from PWTAG and the Carbon Trust.

STA has developed a Pool Plant COMBI course which consists of the Foundation and Certificate Level qualifications run back to back over three consecutive days.

Become a Qualified Pool Plant Operator

STA Foundation Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Water Treatment

The Foundation Certificate course is designed to provide the basic information and the skills necessary to competently test and maintain swimming pool and spa water quality.

Candidates must be 16 years of age to undertake the basic 5 hour taught programme. No prior knowledge is required.

The course covers:

Introduction to Pool Plant Operation
Pollution
Filtration and Circulation
Features of Circulation Systems
Inlets & Outlets - potential dangers
Disinfectants and Disinfection
pH
Water Testing
COSHH

STA Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Water Treatment

The Certificate in Swimming Pool and Spa Water treatment has been designed to provide information and reinforce the training necessary to reflect the most up to date requirements and standards for those employed in the management and operation of swimming pools and spa's water treatment equipment.

The standards reflect recommendations contained within the Health and Safety Executive's Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools (HSG 179).

Candidates must be 18 years of age or older to undertake the 12 hour taught programme and have successfully completed the Foundation Certificate (or equivalent qualification).

This qualification is a comprehensive course covering all aspects of pool and spa operation.

Hold a current Swimming Pool & Spa Water Treatment Certificate Level qualification or equivalent
Be a member of the STA
Submit a CV to STA
Have relevant swimming pool or spa management experience
Have relevant teaching/instrucors experience

Convert to an STA Pool Plant Tutor

Want to convert to an STA Pool Plant Tutor? If so then STA offer an easy conversion process for Pool Plant Tutors joining from other organisations.

To convert to the STA simply:

Complete the Membership Form and pay the subscription (link to document)
Complete the Accredited Prior Learning Form (link to document)
Complete the Foundation Unit Worksheet from the Tutor Foundation Module (download document)
Provide copies of ISRM T/A and National Pool Plant Operators Certificate (or equivalent) qualifications
Purchase the STA Pool Plant Foundation and Certificate level course manuals (£60.00 total)

On approval of the above, all supporting documentation will be forwarded enabling you to register your first course on which you will be moderated at a cost of £95.00
