Membership of the STA

Membership of the Swimming Teachers' Association is available to all who are interested in the charitable objectives of the STA, the preservation of human life by teaching swimming, lifesaving and survival techniques. Applicants for membership of the STA do not have to be qualified with the STA; the STA recognises qualifications from many other organisations in the UK and overseas. Membership is mandatory for candidates enrolling on most STA courses and is mandatory for all Tutors.

Senior Tutors Forum

Senior Tutors of the STA have access to an online forum, to post and discuss Topics of their choice. Please go to:

Applying for Membership

Full membership (Associate and Qualified) currently costs £35.00 per annum when paid by Direct Debit (£40.00 when paid by cheque). The rate for Junior Membership is £14.00 per annum. Membership is not limited to the UK. The STA, through the International Federation of Swimming Teachers' Associations (IFSTA), has members throughout the world who benefit from our expertise and use the STA courses and awards.

Membership Categories

Qualified Membership
The category of membership for those who have held an approved qualification for at least 2 years. They have full voting rights and the full membership package (MSTA).

Associate Membership
For those who have held an approved qualification for less than 2 years. They have full voting rights and the full insurance package (ASTA).

Corporate Membership

Junior Membership
For those aged 13 to 20. However, Junior Members must upgrade to Associate Membership when enrolling on most STA training courses. Junior members are not entitled to vote and do not receive insurance cover from the STA.
