AWARDING BODY NAME CHANGE

The Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA) has just announced that it is to change the name of its Awarding Body to ‘Safety Training Awards’.
Made in response to the fact that the STA provides certification for courses in areas other than swimming, the change will not affect the Association as a whole. The popular STA acronym will remain the same, however in future all certificates will state that they are awarded by ‘Safety Training Awards’.
Roger Millward, Chief Executive of the STA, explained further. He said: “As well as providing certification for Swimming Teachers, we also have courses covering Lifeguarding, Life Saving, First Aid, Defibrillation, and more recently, Pool Plant Operation.
Because we cover so many areas across the whole leisure and recreation industry, not just solely the swimming pool, we considered it appropriate to change the name of our Awarding Body to reflect our diversity.
Although the name may have changed, members will not notice any other differences, and can still expect the excellent standard and quality of service that they have come to associate with the Swimming Teachers’ Association.”
