TRIATHLON EXPO CHARITY TO BENEFIT
28.07.2005
The Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA) will be running a CPR skills competition in conjunction with DM Wood Medical at this year’s London Triathlon Expo. The event, which will be held at London’s ExCeL on 6-7th August 05, will give eager participants the opportunity to win and donate a Heartstart First Aid Defibrillator, provided by DM Wood Medical and worth £1300, to a community organisation of their choice.
Official London Triathlon charities, the British Red Cross and Leukaemia Research Fund, are set to benefit from exhibition visitors testing out their lifesaving CPR skills, with adults charged £1 and children 50p to practice their skills on a professional training manikin.
Adult entrants who score 70% or over and children with 50% or more on the CPR Skills Guide Monitor will automatically be entered into the prize draw. Visitors to the stand need not participate but may wish make a voluntary donation to be entered into the draw.
It is hoped that the competition and demonstrations will help to raise awareness of first aid and the importance of life saving equipment such as defibrillators which are widely used by the STA in emergency situations and have helped to save many lives.
Swim Smooth, who will be exhibiting at the Expo on stand 56, is also offering a fantastic opportunity to win two DVD and Wetronome combo sets worth over £70 each in a free draw. New to the UK, the revolutionary Swim Smooth DVD 3 disc box set is specifically designed for triathletes and open water swimmers, provides a visual stimulus to help improve efficiency through the water, and has been produced by Bill Kirby, Olympic Gold Medallist. This acts as a fully comprehensive training manual, regardless of swimming level.
Also included in the prize is the unique Wetronome Pacing device which provides an accurate method for swimmers to improve their stroke rate during training. The Wetronome is a small, easy to use, reliable and fully waterproof electronic device, that can be worn under a swimming cap or attached to goggles and provides an audible beep to teach swimmers and other athletes rhythm in their stroke.
Over 50 STA lifeguards will be life guarding the event while three STA development officers will be available at the STA stand N80 to provide advice on swimming techniques, programmes and the range of STA swimming and life saving qualifications available.
