STA TO OFFER PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID COURSE

09.09.2005

The Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA) has gained approval from the Pre-School Learning Alliance (PSLA) and National Childminding Association (NCMA) to offer a Paediatric First Aid Course. This will further strengthen the STA’s position as a leader in the provision of lifesaving instruction.

The 12 hour course will benefit those people working or seeking employment with young children and covers babies and toddlers. This will include childminders, childcare specialists and those working in crèches. A shorter version of the course is also available for babysitters. The STA’s Paediatric First Aid Award is primarily aimed at addressing the care and treatment of pre-school children but is, however, also suitable for older children.

Garry Seghers, Technical Development Officer, STA, said: “We currently undertake a lot work with children but felt that we could broaden our training programme to address this important and rapidly growing market. This has been a progressive step for the STA that will help prepare childcare professionals to deliver essential and sometimes life-saving first aid.”

The PSLA is an educational charity that represents 15,000 community pre-schools in England. It is the largest ‘grass-roots’ organisation committed to the education and well-being of children. The NCMA is also a National charity and membership organisation which represents registered childminders in England and Wales. Both organisations are committed to the promotion of quality childcare through the provision of professional services, training and access to information and are keen to endorse the STA’s initiative.

Following its recent launch, the STA is now running courses. For further information on courses being held near you, please click here.
