Facilities Management

The STA and ILAM (NOW ISPAL) have been working in 'Partnership' for many years in order to raise standards and ensure good practice is sustained across all areas of Sport, Leisure and Recreation. The emphasis of the 'Partnership' has been to continually raise standards specifically within vocational training and education, whilst also ensuring access for all.

Every user of a Swimming Pool and Spa has the right to expect that they can enter the Pool and Spa and enjoy themselves in conditions which are both comfortable and free from hazards. To help ensure this, the water in the Pool and Spa should be maintained in a condition that is free from any avoidable threat to the bather. The water should be hygienically safe and maintained at a comfortable temperature.

It is important to remember that all persons involved in the provision of these facilities should not be exposed to any unnecessary hazards in the course of their occupation.

To achieve the correct conditions, the pool operator and/or staff need to attain a level of competence to maintain the water treatment equipment, facilities and environmental conditions in order to ensure that the operational criteria are met. They will also require the knowledge of how to achieve these parameters both safely, economically and effectively.

Therefore in response to demand from the leisure industry and employers for accredited qualifications and standards, the STA and ISPAL have developed two Swimming Pool & Spa Water Treatment qualifications that are QCA accredited and are on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

These being the "FIRST" Swimming Pool and Spa qualification to be nationally accredited onto the NQF.

In support of these accredited qualifications a comprehensive Tutor programme has been developed and further information on "Becoming a Tutor" can be obtained by contacting the STA on 01922 645097.
