Supporting Awards
Consisting of a series of awards that provide contrast and incentives within, or outside of, the ISWSS Learn to Swim Programme. They are:
The Distance Series comprises a range of awards that reward distance and stamina over distances from 5 metres to 5,000 metres and can be used as additional incentives throughout The ISWSS Learn to Swim Programme
The Kingfisher Series of 3 awards develops diving skills. It can be used to complement pupil's activities during awards from Step X onwards.
The Seal Series comprises 4 awards covering personal survival skills. It is recommended that this series is only undertaken by pupils who have completed the Shark Series Level 4.
The Beaver Series of 5 awards develops watermanship skills and leads into water polo and synchronised swimming activities.
The Otter Series introduce an understanding of anatomy and physiology and basic First Aid Skills in 4 awards; it is suitable to use for pupils who are at Key Stage 2 upwards and can be undertaken in the classroom.

The STA has a range of Incentive Awards for use within, or outside, of The ISWSS Learn to Swim Programme including:
- The "I can Swim" badge, which can be used as an incentive for a pupil who can swim but perhaps cannot complete an award or cannot swim sufficient distance to achieve a Distance Award.
- Good Stroke Badges – badges available include "Good Front Crawl", "Good Back Crawl", "Good Breast Stroke", "Good Butterfly".
- A Certificate of Achievement, which can be presented for any suitable pupil achievement.
STAnley
Certificate and Badges
STAnley is the STA’s official mascot, created to promote our ISWSS Awards programme, especially to children of primary school age. The following certificates and badges are available:- A STAnley says "Well Done" certificate and badge.
- A range of STAnley stickers, which say ‘Wicked’, ‘You’re a Star’, ‘I Did It’ and ‘Well Done’.
