Get Started with Junior Lifeguard Academy

Depending on the qualifications you hold, there are two ways to get started teaching the Junior Lifeguard Academy Programme. A wide range of resources are available to successful Junior Lifeguard Instructors, including:

  • Full colour, waterproof resource manual
  • Programme tick sheets
  • Programme-specific resources and guidance, including:
    • Sample lesson plans
    • Game ideas
    • Skill-specific videos

Which Option is Right for Me?

Use the table below to determine which option is required for you in order to become a Junior Lifeguard Instructor or Assistant Instructor.

Swim England Level 2 Teaching Swimming (including in-date lifesaving)
RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Instructor
STA Aquatic Tutor Status
STA Lifesaving Tutor Status
RLSS Trainer Assessor (pool, beach and lifesaving)
Please note: you must hold an in-date Emergency First Aid at Work, First Aid at Work, Pool Emergency Responder, Pool Lifeguarding or RLSS NPLQ qualification to deliver the Junior Medic series.
