STA Statement of Support to RCUK: Strengthening CPR Education in UK Schools

STA fully supports the Resuscitation Council UK’s (RCUK) call for governments across the UK to strengthen their support for CPR education in schools. This follows RCUK’s latest research, which reveals that nearly 4 in 10 students (38%) say they haven’t received any CPR training at school – despite CPR training being on the secondary school curriculum.
STA firmly believes that teaching lifesaving skills like CPR is essential for all young people. That’s why we developed the Junior Medic programme – to give children the practical knowledge and confidence to respond in an emergency. RCUK’s research reinforces this, showing that over 70% of students who receive CPR training feel confident to act when it matters most.
As a charity dedicated to education and lifesaving, we know how important it is that every young person has the opportunity to learn CPR as part of their school experience.
We therefore, encourage all our members and partners to support RCUK’s “From Classrooms to Communities” campaign by signing the petition and encouraging others to do the same. Together, we can work to ensure that every school has the resources and support needed to teach CPR effectively.
