STA Launches First Blended First Aid Courses for Sports and Activity Settings

Safety Training Awards continues to expand its first aid qualification portfolio with the launch of two more new qualifications this month: the STA Level 3 Award in Activity Emergency First Aid and the STA Level 3 Award in Activity First Aid.
Developed in response to member feedback, these qualifications meet the growing demand for flexible, activity-focused training – and mark the first time STA has introduced blended learning into its regulated first aid offering.
The STA Level 3 Award in Activity Emergency First Aid is a seven-hour course designed for those working in low-risk activity environments such as sports coaches, leisure staff, and volunteers. It can be delivered fully face-to-face or through a blended format, with up to two hours of online learning followed by in-person assessment and practical training.
For those needing a broader skill set, the STA Level 3 Award in Activity First Aid is a fourteen-hour programme that covers a wider range of injuries and emergency scenarios common in active settings. This course also supports blended delivery, allowing up to four hours of online content before completing the remaining face-to-face training. Both qualifications include adult and paediatric elements, making them suitable for individuals supporting mixed age groups in recreational, educational, or community roles.
“These new qualifications provide a more complete and flexible training pathway for those working in different environments – whether that’s outdoors, in sports, or in community activity settings. It’s also exciting to offer blended learning for the first time, giving ATCs and tutors more options to support a wider range of learners,” said Helen Done, STA’s Qualifications and Business Development Manager.
“They also provide centres and learners with greater flexibility, while ensuring training remains practical, hands-on, and compliant with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.”
These two brand new qualifications, alongside the recently launched outdoor first aid qualifications – also developed in response to member requests – form part of a broader strategy by STA to offer a complete, accessible suite of regulated first aid training through one awarding organisation.
