Making Waves with the Everything App
With over 90 years of experience in aquatic education, the STA understands the strong link between swimming and wellbeing. As a UK-registered educational charity, the STA has built its reputation on promoting water safety and teaching people of all ages and abilities how to swim.
Now, through a new partnership with The Everything App, the STA is using its aquatics expertise to help NHS staff and their families look after their health and wellbeing. One example is āCouch to 1 Mileā, a new step-by-step swimming programme that will be delivered nationwide through leisure operators and swim schools.
The STA recognises the huge contribution NHS staff make to society – often at the expense of their own wellbeing – and will be encouraging its 20,000+ members and 300+ Approved Training Centres to promote The Everything App, ensuring support reaches even more people across the swimming community. Swimming is not only a vital life skill but also a great way to improve both physical and mental health.
āCouch to 1 Mileā is a step-by-step swimming programme that takes participants from building water confidence through to swimming a full mile. Designed with NHS staff and their families in mind, itās flexible and accessible, allowing people to progress at their own pace. This makes it especially suitable for healthcare workers who may have limited time and varying fitness levels, while also reflecting STAās commitment to making swimming inclusive and supportive for everyone.
Dave Candler, CEO of STA, said: āThe launch of The Everything App is a fantastic step forward in supporting the wellbeing of NHS staff and their families. As a charity dedicated to promoting health, safety, and enjoyment in aquatic activities, STA is committed to helping people of all ages and abilities stay active and healthy, which is why we are proud to support this initiative. By making physical activity more accessible and inclusive, the app will open up new opportunities for NHS staff to look after their own physical and mental health, just as they take care of others every day. We look forward to working with all the sector partners to see the positive impact this initiative will have.ā
Julie Davis, founder of The Everything App, added: āPartnering with the STA brings incredible expertise and reach to The Everything App and we are hugely excited about this collaboration. The development of new programmes such as āCouch to 1 Mileā shows exactly what weāre trying to achieve – making wellbeing support accessible and practical for NHS staff who give so much to others.ā
