STA Launches New Video Resources to Support the Learn to Swim (LSP) Programme

STA is pleased to announce the release of a brand-new range of supporting videos for its graded Learn to Swim Programme (LSP). Covering the learning outcomes for each of the seven levels, the videos give swimming teachers a valuable new tool to seamlessly demonstrate and explain skills during lessons.
Now available to STA members via STA Online, the videos provide consistent, high-quality demonstrations to support both teaching and learning, helping ensure all seven grades of the LSP are delivered effectively across swim schools. They feature stroke development, water safety, rescue skills, diving, and wider aquatic activities – all of which form part of the LSP’s comprehensive, and progressive curriculum.
Jodie Davis, STA’s Aquatic Qualification Development Officer, said: “Visual learning is an incredibly effective teaching aid, and these videos give teachers instant access to clear, consistent demonstrations that bring the LSP to life. They make lessons more engaging and effective for participants, and help ensure the same high standards are delivered across all swim schools. Many of the core skills featured in the videos will also be useful for teachers following different learn to swim programmes, including ILSP.”
The launch of the videos also coincides with the rollout of STA’s new LSP on CoursePro, now featuring a brand-new Vimeo integration. This makes CoursePro the only course management software to offer fully integrated STA LSP media, giving subscribers instant access to video resources alongside the teaching framework. Parents can also view the videos through CoursePro’s HomePortal, providing full visibility of the skills their children have been assessed on and strengthening engagement throughout the learn-to-swim journey.
About LSP
Introduced in October last year, STA’s Learn to Swim Programme (LSP) has been designed using a streamlined grade system to give pool operators and swim schools greater flexibility. In response to feedback from customers, the new initiative provides a structured pathway for participants of all ages and abilities to enhance their aquatic skills, while also being accessible for all facilities.
Developed in consultation with members and industry experts, the LSP features seven progressive grades that build aquatic knowledge and skill development step by step, rewarding achievement at every stage and helping learners become confident, well-rounded swimmers.
In line with STA’s ethos of teaching essential skills, the grades focus on stroke development, water safety, rescue skills, diving, and other swimming aptitudes to ensure participants are competent and well-rounded swimmers.
The programme also supports the retention of swimmers by introducing different branches of aquatics such as competitive swimming, water polo, artistic swimming skills and junior lifesaving. This means participants get to try different aquatic skills to decide what they enjoy about swimming and how they would like to progress after the LSP.
STA’s LSP is also supported by colourful eye-catching certificates and awards, accompanied by free success trackers and stickers for children and parents to follow progress and stay motivated throughout the programme.
