Get Started with Junior Lifeguard Academy

Depending on the qualifications you hold, there are two ways to get started teaching the Junior Lifeguard Academy Programme. A wide range of resources are available to successful Junior Lifeguard Instructors, including:

  • Full colour, waterproof resource manual
  • Programme tick sheets
  • Programme-specific resources and guidance, including:
    • Sample lesson plans
    • Game ideas
    • Skill-specific videos

Providing you already have the appropriate qualifications, you can log in to your STA Online account (or register for one by clicking here) and select the RPL to Junior Lifeguard Programme option to become a Junior Lifeguard Instructor.

Attend a CPD Seminar

Depending on your pre-requisite qualifications, successful completion of the Junior Lifeguard Instructor CPD will qualify you to become a Junior Lifeguard Instructor or Assistant Instructor. The CPD also covers the skills required to teach the Junior Medic Series.

RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Instructor
STA Award for Pool Lifeguard (or acceptable equivalent)
SLSA Beach Lifeguard (or acceptable equivalent)
Please note: You must hold an in-date Emergency First Aid at Work, First Aid at Work, STA Pool Responder, Pool Lifeguard or NPLQ qualification to deliver the Junior Medic series – or attend a Junior Lifeguard CPD (which includes the knowledge to teach Junior Medic).
