Tara Dillon Announced As Keynote Speaker for STA National Conference 2026

STA has confirmed that Tara Dillon, Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), will headline as keynote speaker at the STA National Conference 2026.
Taking place on 13-14 November 2026 at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Cheltenham Chase, the two-day event will bring together swimming teachers, tutors, operators and aquatic professionals from across the UK for a comprehensive programme of learning, collaboration and sector insight.
Widely recognised as one of the UK’s most influential leaders in sport and physical activity, Tara has been instrumental in shaping the professionalisation of the workforce since joining CIMSPA in 2015. Under her leadership, the organisation has played a central role in strengthening career pathways, raising professional standards and supporting the long-term development of the sector – this includes the new one-qualification route for swimming teaching.
Voted among the top five CEOs in The Times Best Companies initiative, Tara is known for her distinctive leadership approach, championing workplace culture, trust and collaboration. Her keynote session will explore how innovative leadership practices – from alternative approaches to recruitment and annual leave, to a coaching-led management style – can unlock potential across teams and enable individuals to thrive.
Tara’s career spans almost four decades, beginning as a lifeguard in 1987 before progressing into senior leadership roles across the leisure sector, including Contract Manager at DC Leisure Management and Executive Director of IQL, the trading arm of the Royal Life Saving Society UK. Her journey reflects a deep-rooted commitment to developing people and strengthening the sector from the ground up.
Commenting on the announcement, Dave Candler, STA CEO, said: “We are delighted to welcome Tara as our keynote speaker for this year’s National Conference. Her leadership within CIMSPA has played a pivotal role in raising professional standards across the sport and physical activity sector, and her passion for developing people aligns closely with STA’s own commitment to supporting the aquatic workforce.”
“Tara’s perspective on culture, leadership and workforce development will provide valuable insight for our delegates at a time when investing in people has never been more important,” confirmed Dave.
STA’s National Conference is a flagship event in the aquatic calendar, offering a platform for knowledge sharing, professional development and meaningful industry connection. The 2026 programme will feature expert speakers, panel discussions and practical sessions designed to support the evolving needs of the aquatic workforce.
Day one of the conference will also conclude with the STA Aquatic Excellence Awards on the Friday evening, celebrating outstanding achievements across the sector, including individuals, swim schools, leisure operators and organisations making a positive impact in aquatics.
