STA and Autism Swim Mark Renewed Partnership with Expanded Neurodiversity Training Offer

To mark the renewal of its partnership with Autism Swim, STA is supporting the launch of an expanded suite of neurodiversity-focused training programmes for aquatic professionals.

Building on a long-standing collaboration, the updated offering from Autism Swim reflects the growing need for practical, high-quality training that supports inclusive delivery across learn-to-swim and wider aquatic environments.

The refreshed portfolio includes updated content across existing CPDs, alongside a range of new specialist courses and a comprehensive Neurodiversity and Aquatics Certification, providing a clear development pathway for teachers and operators looking to embed inclusive practice more deeply into their programmes.

New modules include:

  • Co-occurring conditions and support planning
  • Drowning prevention
  • Wandering and Elopement
  • Skill development and progression
  • Visual supports and communication strategies
  • Inclusive pathways and flexible thinking

Together, these programmes provide a more structured and practical framework for supporting neurodivergent participants in aquatic settings.

This development reflects Autism Swim’s wider work in advancing neuroinclusive aquatic practice, combining evidence-led frameworks, clinical expertise and lived experience. As the organisation marks ten years of impact, it represents a shift beyond awareness-based learning, focusing instead on applied, competency-led training that can be implemented directly in the pool environment – supporting safer, more inclusive aquatic environments.

Antoinette Spear, General Manager at Autism Swim, said: “As we celebrate a decade of impact, we are thrilled to renew our partnership with the STA. By combining Autism Swim’s world leading expertise with the STA’s incredible reach across the UK, we are ensuring that neuroinclusion isn’t just an ‘add-on’, rather, it’s becoming a fundamental industry standard. Together, we are empowering a new generation of teachers to create a future where every swimmer, regardless of their neurotype, feels safe, seen, and supported in the water.”

Brett Preston, STA’s Director of Digital Services, added: “At STA, we are committed to supporting swimming teachers with the skills and confidence they need to deliver inclusive, high-quality lessons. Our continued partnership with Autism Swim provides a structured and practical approach to neurodiversity training, helping teachers better understand and respond to the individual needs of every learner.

This type of specialist training helps embed inclusive practice as a core part of swimming teaching, supporting environments where every individual feels understood and able to participate with confidence.”
