STA Help Drive Pool Plant Industry Standards

National Occupational Standards (NOS) with Skills Active have approved new standards for pool plant safety, which reflect STA’s qualification criterion.

As the lead training body for pool plant operators, STA were one of the lead representatives in the steering group and instrumental in making sure the new standards reflected modern day safe working practises.

The new standards published this month relate to:

  • SKAPPO1 – Maintaining the Quality of Water in Pool Plant Operations
  • SKAPPO2 – Dealing with Substances Hazardous to Health
  • SKAPPO3 – Supervise Pool Plant Maintenance and Repairs
  • SKAPPO4 – Ensure Health and Safety Requirements

Richard Lamburn, STA’s Technical Manager for Pool Plant, who hosted many of the meetings at STA’s Head Office, said: We welcomed the opportunity to be a key member of this steering group. With our technical knowledge and understanding of the industry, we have been able to influence, and help shape and drive through these important new high standards.

All STA’s pool plant qualifications meet the new NOS standards, are regulated by Ofqual, the government’s regulatory body for qualifications and conform to PWTAG recommendations and guidelines.
